The rules, plainly
What the regulator allows, how it stacks with net metering, and what to expect at tax time.
Net metering
Arizona uses an export rate that is reset each year and is far below retail. Unsold blocks are credited at that rate.
Tax
State and federal income reporting apply. Most household sellers stay under the reporting threshold.
Regulator
The Arizona Corporation Commission sets export rates. Peer sales run under your existing interconnection.
Arizona has more sunshine than anywhere on the board, which means more surplus, but also more competition in the middle of the day. Sellers with a battery to shift power into the evening earn the most.
What to know
- Midday prices are the lowest in the country because everyone is exporting at once.
- The 5pm to 8pm window is where the money is, and batteries own it.
- Summer cooling demand keeps evening prices high from May to September.
Cities
Phoenix and Tucson are both live.
